There are a couple of scenarios where duplicate commissions may occur, often due to overlapping affiliate tracking methods. Here's how it can happen—and how to prevent it:
1. Duplicate Orders via Affiliate Cookie Tracking
- How it happens: If you're tracking on multiple affiliate platforms (e.g., ShopMy and another network like Honey or Rakuten), a user can engage with links from both. This can result in both platforms receiving credit for the same transaction.
- Example: A customer clicks a ShopMy creator’s link, then activates Honey at checkout. Both ShopMy and Honey may be credited for the sale, and the brand may pay duplicate commissions.
- Recommended solution:
We recommend deduplicating ShopMy orders against your affiliate network, and canceling duplicates within the affiliate network, not ShopMy. Since ShopMy provides a more direct brand-to-creator connection, this approach helps preserve creator relationships and campaign performance.
2. Duplicate Orders via Promo Code Tracking
- How it happens: If you're issuing commissionable discount codes through ShopMy, but a customer checks out using one of those codes after clicking a link from another affiliate platform, both platforms may receive credit.
- Example: A customer clicks on another platform’s affiliate link and uses a ShopMy-issued code like
SUSIE15
at checkout. Both the other affiliate platform and ShopMy may earn commission for the same order.
- Recommended solution:
To avoid this, we suggest blacklisting any ShopMy-exclusive codes within your affiliate network. This ensures that orders using those codes are only commissioned through ShopMy and not duplicated elsewhere.
