Leveraging Advanced Features & Analytics in the Social Mentions Feed
Brands are using the Social Mentions feed to discover the best organic content, find new promoters, optimize their gifting efforts and more. There are advanced features within the Social Mentions Feed that, we don’t want you to miss:
On the left-hand side of your brand’s Social Mentions Feed, there is a section labeled: Tags / Source. When we gather mentions, we are checking all the social content of the talent on the platform using these sources. Mentions can come in the following formats:
- Direct tags of your brands or tags referencing your brand. For example, this could be #tatcha or #tatchaskincare or #tatchaparnter.
- Direct mentions of your brand in descriptions or titles of content. For example “My Favorite Tatcha product”
- Media connected to ShopMy collections featuring your products
- Media using affiliate URLS (go.shopmy.us links), even with no mention of your brand
Things to remember when you’re creating Custom Tracking Tags:
- If you add a # or @ symbol before a tag, we will only look for content that uses those as well, if you do not specify a symbol we will look for that word, regardless of whether it has a hashtag or not. For example: “I absolutely love my new Tatcha moisturizer” would show up on your feed if you had “Tatcha” as a tag, but not if you had “#tatcha” as a tag.
- We only recommend using the # and @ symbols, if you have tags that are more general words. For example: If your company name is “Bubble”, we recommend adding “#bubble” and “@bubble” as two tags so that you don’t get content like “I love blowing bubbles with my kids” and only get content about your specific brand.
- If you add a space, we will ensure the words show up in that order exactly. For example: If you are a brand with a space, we recommend adding your entire brand name.
Brands that run multiple campaigns should consider if they have enough tracking tags to monitor all relevant content. Also, brands could use additional tracking tags to follow their competitors' content. If you’re interested in having more custom tracking tags for your brand, please reach out to your account manager.
Sorting is one of the most powerful features within the Social Mentions Feed. In the top right-hand corner, you will see a drop-down that contains: standard sorting, analytics sorting, and advanced sorting.
Standard and analytics sorting are categories including, likes, comments, views, date posted, and social following. Advanced sorting lets you organize by the Estimated Cost of Content, Estimated Media Value, and Best-Projected ROI.
Estimated Cost of Content: This is the estimated price a brand would have to pay for this type of content from a creator. This value is an estimation that takes into consideration the price of the content based on “True Follower Count” - see explanation below. .
For example, a Feed Post for someone with a True Follower Count of 50k followers might cost $0.01 per follower or $500.
Estimated Media Value: This value is based roughly on how much it would cost to generate impressions, likes, and comments with paid advertising. It accounts for the type of content and the analytical results such as views, comments, shares, likes, saves, and more.
EMV is roughly based on how much it would cost to generate the impressions, likes and comments with paid advertising. The following are the values used in the calculations.
- View - $0.05 ($0.06 on stories)
- Like - $0.15
- Comment - $1
- Share - $1
- Save - $1
- TikTok
- View - $0.03
- Like - $0.05
- Comment - $0.05
- Share - $0.05
- Save - $0.10
- Youtube
- View - $0.15
- Like - $0.15
- Comment - $1
Best-Projected ROI: This value is a division of “Estimated Media Value” by “Estimated Cost of Content.” It shows which content will most likely provide the best value for the cost.
For example, an ROI of 10X means that if you purchase this content, you will likely get 10X the value for the cost. Suppose an Instagram post had an estimated “Cost of Content” of $50, but resulted in an “Estimated Media Value” of $5,000. In this case, you will likely end up paying less than the value you receive for that particular type of content. This is an indication that this is a creator you may really want to work with.
As you know, follower count isn’t everything and sometimes a number tells a slightly skewed story about a given creator. To provide you with a picture of how powerful the relationship a creator has with their audience is, we need to consider their engagement.
The purpose of the True Follower Count is to adjust a creator’s follower count based on their engagement metrics - relative to other creators of similar sizes. True Follower Count will allow you to compare ShopMy creators on a single metric, making it easier to decide who to partner with — without having to constantly do the math.
How we calculate “True Follower Count”
To calculate this value, we look at the average engagement metrics of 10 buckets of creators ranging from 0 to 100m followers. These buckets are customized to the social platform, with, for example, a YouTube Subscriber providing more weight than a TikTok follower.
Within each bucket, we calculate the average engagement across likes, comments, and other platform-specific values. This then becomes the “expected engagement” for a given bucket.
For example, when we look at the following buckets, we can expect the following stats:
5 - 10k Instagram Followers
1 like for every 33 followers
1 comment for every 475 followers
25 - 50k Instagram Followers
1 like for every 42 followers
1 comment for every 1.5k followers
500k - 1m Instagram Followers
1 like for every 56 followers
1 comment for every 5k followers
These numbers are to demonstrate the concept and real metrics are re-calculated and updated daily on your dashboard.
Now, with this bucket expectation set, we can check how a given creator performs relative to other creators in their bucket. With that value, we can then adjust their follower count to a value more representative of their real influence. The specific adjustments of how we weigh the impact of variations in engagement vary based on the platform, the types of content they typically produce, and various other factors.
Within the Social mentions page, there is now an icon within each tile that shows whether the creator has been gifted or not. Use case: if brands notice a creator posted but has not been gifted, would be a good opportunity to gift to them to continue posting / build a relationship
